Kikyou's the previous "owner" of Kagome's soul. She was a very powerful miko (priestess) in her time alive on earth. She died after being fatally wounded by Inu Yasha, when he was trying to steal the Shikon no Tama from her protection. She went to her grave holding the jewel in her hands, after shooting an arrow which sealed Inu Yasha forever to a sacred tree. Kikyou and Inu Yasha both died hating each other, believing that the other had turned on them, when in fact it was all a trap by Naraku. She was brought back to life by witchery using her bones and earth from her grave. She's back, and still is hating Inu Yasha. She will not die peacefully until she has taken Inu Yasha down to hell with her. She travels the land from town to town until she needs to leave, her body staying alive by taking the souls of dead women.
